Michael Cole is a Sussex-based oil painter whose work explores the emotive power of light through richly atmospheric, contemporary paintings.
Largely self-taught, he draws on traditional painting techniques that have stood the test of time, combining classical craftsmanship with a modern sensibility.
Inspired by travels across the UK and around the world, Michael’s subject matter is diverse, ranging from landscapes and urban scenes to more intimate studies. Across all his work, a consistent thread is his fascination with light — how it shapes mood, reveals form, and evokes memory.
Michael has exhibited widely at major art fairs and events including Fresh Art Fair in both London and Cheltenham, Sussex Art Fair, Windsor Art Fair, The Sussex Contemporary, Manchester Art Fair, Bath Art Fair, Brighton Art Fair and Art Surrey. His work has also been shown and sold at galleries such as Ad Lib Gallery (London), Orleans House Gallery (London), Bobcat Gallery (London), and Gigglewick Gallery (Worthing).
Previous projects include commissions for private collectors and high-profile clients, notably seven paintings created for BP’s prestigious Centenary Collection.
